If you have one or more missing teeth, it is necessary to restore your smile so that you can talk and chew properly. When you have gaps in your smile, there is also a concern that your natural teeth may shift into the open spaces. Dentures are one of the many options Dr. Paul may recommend to you after accessing your smile.
What are dentures?
Dentures are natural looking dental appliances made to replace a missing tooth or teeth and also any surrounding tissue that may have been lost. There is a gum-colored plastic base on which a customized tooth or teeth are secured, which fits into your mouth easily and comfortably.
There are two main types of dentures:
- Partial Denture. If you have natural teeth, this appliance is made to fit in-between and is secured to those teeth.
- Complete Denture. This is an appliance of replacement teeth that is created to replace a full lower or upper jaw set of teeth.
What is the process?
Dentures are made in a lab after a series of appointments where precise measurements and impressions are taken of your mouth and jaw. It is of utmost importance to us that they fit comfortably, so we may recommend follow-up appointments to ensure optimal fit as it’s normal to experience changes in your bone and tissue after the removal of natural teeth.
